NUTRITIONAL ASPECTS BY WOMEN AND THE USE OF THE SUPPLEMENTS AFTER GASTRIC BYPASS

1.Introduction: Bariatric surgery bariatric surgery can cause gastrointestinal disorders and major nutritional deficiencies. . Objective: To demonstrate the occurrence of changes and symptoms related to the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and signs suggestive of possible nutritional deficiencies, and to analyze the frequency of food consumption and use of vitamin supplements.
2.Methods: The study, a prospective cross-sectional nature, was held at a private medical clinic in Curitiba – PR. Data collection was conducted in September and October 2015 through a questionnaire with direct questions to women undergoing gastric bypass.
3.Results: The sample consisted of 29 women aged 20-65 years, mean 41.4 ± 9,1anos submitted to Gastric Bypass with postoperative time less than 24 months. When asked about the complications presented in the postoperative period, the alopecia was the most frequent with 79.3% of the reports, then change the texture of the nails, both considered predictive of nutritional deficiencies. Changes in the gastrointestinal tract have been described by 86.2%, and the episodes of dumping syndrome reported by 65.5% of respondents. As the qualitative analysis of the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) was observed a reduced daily consumption of sources of animal and plant proteins. The use of nutritional supplements are not regularly maintained in 50% of operated.
4.Conclusion: After the gastric bypass may be several gastrointestinal symptoms and dumping syndrome. The process of losing weight effectively and maintenance requires quality of food and the use of nutritional supplements to avoid complications such as alopecia.
